2012 MarCom Receives over 6,000 Entries

After about two months of daily judging and many days of processing results, winners are now listed on our website and information packets are in the mail. U.S. entrants should have their results by Wednesday; Canadians by the end of the week; and entrants outside the U.S. whenever the stars are in alignment.

Check out our Platinum and Gold winners on our website. The database is searchable for cities, states and categories. So, you can find out who else won in your area or who the other winners were in your category.

We’ve also posted examples of winning work on our website, blog and Facebook page. We know how sensitive client permission can be, so don’t worry, if you didn’t give us permission, your work is not displayed.

   

AVA Awards gets a face lift!

The 2013 AVA Digital Awards competition is set to open this Thursday, November 1st! We are pleased to introduce some new and exciting branding, new categories, as well as a new website and online entry / registration system.

The creative convergence of digital arts, technology and information is changing the way we market, communicate and socially interact. The advent of digital media allows audio, video and electronic text to work together to enhance the speed and flow of information. Show off your best work and separate yourself from your competition. Throughout its 51 year history, the Acadian Home Builders Association in Lafayette, Louisiana, has donated nearly a million dollars to various shelter related agencies and construction related education programs. AHBA members have made this continuing commitment to their community, even though AHBA is itself a non-profit trade association, which depends upon member dues and yearly projects to fund its own operations.

In November, 2005, the Acadian Home Builders Association established a new project geared to providing a more stable and predictable source of funding. It’s called Home for the Holidays and each year, the builder-members and associates build and raffle a new home, with the profits dedicated to funding AHBA’s shelter and education related charities.

Since its inception, AHBA’s Home for the Holidays has awarded more than $955,000 to its adopted charities, including Habitat for Humanity, The Children’s Shelter of Acadiana Youth (for abandoned & abused kids), Faith House (for victims of domestic violence), St. Michael’s Center for Homeless Veterans and this year has established a special fund with the Community Foundation of Acadiana dedicated to retro-fitting homes for returning war veterans with special disabilities.

The Acadian Home Builders Association is an organization committed to its community and truly worthy of recognition from the Communitas Awards.

The digital world now makes it convenient to receive entries online, but we still have several thousand that come through the door. Some entries just don’t have the desired effect when they are submitted digitally. When the post office and delivery services make their drops, we have several people who open the packages and process the contents. It is actually a very interesting job. Many of the entries are unusual …. you never know what we are going to get. Some of our favorites have been product labels that just so happened to be attached to unopened bottles of beer, wine and spirits.

The other day, our processors were going through the deliveries when I heard a scream, followed quickly by a second person’s scream. As I was running down the hall to see what happened, I had visions of a dead rodent and even a body part in one of the packages. What I found were the two processors gleefully opening a box of chocolates. In the box with the chocolate treasures was the Acuity Annual report entitled, “Acuity, A Sweet Year 2011″. The quality of the annual report matched the quality of the chocolates, or so I am told. I know the report was well done, but by the time the box made its way to the judges, A Sweet Year was just a Sweet Annual Report. The moral of the story is if you want to attract attention, share a theme with a good box of chocolates.

This 1:35 video pays homage to the Mexican National Soccer Team and the 100 million fans that stand behind it. It was shown to 74,000 people during halftime on May 13 at Reliant Stadium in Houston, when Mexico defeated Angola 1-0. It’s in Spanish, but you don’t need an interpreter to appreciate the music, editing, narration and especially the directing and videography. The piece is sponsored by Degree Men, an antiperspirant. The production and the players are so smooth that no one appears to be working up a sweat. Degree Men must really work.
